Avast! ye virus lubbers!

Have you ever wondered what anti-virus to recommend to friends or family?  Maybe you were wondering what to use on your own machine.

I received a troubled call from my mother in-law the other day stating her computer was infected with a virus.  In the past when I received a call like that, I worried about how I was going to eradicate the virus.
Not this time...

Years ago I discovered an application created for such uses; Avast! Antivirus.  Sure there are others, maybe others that don't have quite the footprint Avast! does, but I've found the most success using Avast!.  It doesn't seem to take over your computer - like most big named antivirus software.

It's completely FREE for home use, and not a bad app for business use.  It's honestly the first Antivirus that's worked well for me.  I've also had it notify users of viruses BEFORE their computers are infected.  From mail-scanning, to real time system protection, it's a terrific application, and I'm glad there are companies out there like Alwil software.

If you DON'T want to pay a silly subscription fee for software that barely does the trick, and software that seems to have a bigger footprint than the virus itself, click here.

Another noteable software out there is AVG.  I haven't had quite as much success with AVG, but many users like it.  After finding success with a software, it's much easier to have faith in it.
